Loud patrons show a number badge — that's the shush they need. Too weak just under-does it; too strong upsets them. Talking starts from colliding or sitting together, and shushing either one settles both.
Quiet patrons leave more books, talkative ones make more noise. Don't hover near solo patrons or crowded tables too long, and don't leave checkout patrons waiting.
